3 Ways to Prepare for Summer, Now

This is a paid partnership. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

And just like that it’s time to start thinking about summer! Living in Houston, summer is my least favorite of all seasons. It’s just too hot here! You would think after 37 years of being able to get acclimated to this weather it wouldn’t bother me so much, but, here we are again, dreading the heat and humidity. In order to make this summer more enjoyable (because let’s face it, we all had a less than enjoyable time being cooped up last summer) I am starting now in the spring to prepare for a fun summer for my family. I find that preparation always makes things, even the hot and sticky things, go a lot smoother.

1.Prepare A Grab-And-Go Bag

Even now as the temperatures begin to rise I am finding that I need to be prepared with all the things the kids and I might need if we are outside. I assembled a few essentials that I always keep handy in the car so that no matter where the day takes us, we have what we need. Some items include: sunscreen, towels, bug repellant, flip-flops/water shoes, water bottles, bandaids, and wet wipes. No matter if we come across a splash pad, or do an impromptu picnic for lunch on a nice weekend, we have what we need to make it happen.

With my Walmart+ Membership, using the free shipping with no order minimum benefit (excludes oversized, freight, and Marketplace items) was a breeze to get all the things I needed for my grab-and-go summer bag. Shopping online and seeing exactly what I needed in my cart allowed me to not forget anything that I knew would be essential for our family outings. Other great Walmart+ benefits include: Free delivery from your store ($35 minimum, restrictions apply), Member prices on fuel (save 5 cents per gallon), and check out with your phone as you shop in-store with Mobile scan & go.

2.Prepare Your Outdoor Space

Since the freezing weather and freak snow storm in Texas, my husband and I have worked really hard this spring to get our yard looking green and healthy again. We learned from being shut in our home last summer with the pandemic that having an outdoor space that is a nice and functional space for the family to unwind is key. Make your outdoor space a place where you want to go! Live in an apartment? Dress up your patio or porch with a few potted plants or start an herb garden! There is just something about planting seeds and watching them grow that is so satisfying and also a great visual for your outdoor area. Need a place to cool off but don’t have a neighborhood pool? Blow up pools, saved our summer last year! The kids (and the dog) love to splash around in these mobile pools. They come in all shapes and sizes and will keep you cool all summer long.

3.Prepare A Getaway

Our family has slowly been easing out more as the temperatures rise. This summer we wanted to do something a little different but still within the state of Texas. Although it’s still spring, planning a summer vacation for the family starts now. This allows me to do research on places to go and what restrictions may still be in place that I need to be aware of ahead of time. It’s also great to prepare for a summer vacation in the spring because summer activities are starting to build up for the kids. Swim lessons, and vacation bible school, and day camps are all mounting so it’s good to come up with the master summer schedule now. This is helping me know when and for how many days we can go on a family getaway.

In times where it seems as though no amount of preparation could have made you ready for what’s coming next, I choose to prepare for really fun (and hot) days ahead this summer. Utilizing my Walmart+ membership and all its benefits to the fullest is a must-do all summer long.
