We are in the dog days of summer with one month to go until school starts back up again. My kids have run through snacks like they are paying the bills around here! With my two kids it feels like they either love each other or they are at each other’s throats, there’s no in between. We decided to shake things up now that it’s the midpoint of our summer. Check out this list I have compiled of summer adventure ideas to do with your kids and join along with our family as we coast into the fall.
Backyard Camping
Cami has been asking us to go camping for a while now and I decided to give the kids a trial run in our backyard before we tackle the great outdoors somewhere else. I headed to Walmart.com and found a few camping items that I knew would make for a great setup to get the kid’s feet wet with camping. I was able to find everything I needed for our outdoor adventure and have it shipped directly to our house. Cameron and I set up a 4-person tent, propped up outdoor chairs, and filled a cooler with water and juice boxes.
After we set up all of the things, Cami and Hendrix went straight inside the tent to check things out. About 10 minutes later I heard Cami scream that there was a spider in the tent. And this marks the end of her wanting to go camping!
Outdoor Games And Activities
Fortunately I had other outdoor things planned after the spider was spotted so we were able to continue our summer adventure in the backyard.
I also found giant tumbling blocks and a rock art set on Walmart.com. Hendrix loves anything to do with rocks and Cami loves crafts. The rock art kit was the perfect activity to enjoy outside. This summer, don’t be afraid to take games and projects that you would normally do inside, outside. It’s a totally different experience and can make summer ideas that have gone stale, fun again.
Cook With The Kids Outside
In the winter we love warming up by the fire pit in our backyard. This summer for the first time, we showed the kids how to cook over an open fire by making hot dogs on roasting forks. They loved being able to see how the fire roasted the hotdogs and learned that it’s possible to cook outside of an indoor kitchen. Don’t have a fire pit? No problem! You can use campfire pit logs to create your own campfire experience.
