If you are like me, you had the best intentions of taking your kids to all the coolest most fun places around town this summer until you saw the inflation prices going up, and up, and up! With prices higher than they have ever been before, it got me thinking about ways to create experiences with my family in my own backyard this summer.
This summer money may be a little tight, but I still want to enable my family to create the moments they’ll remember for years to come. We plan on making it an epic summer right in our own backyard.
My kids are always ready to get in the pool or splash around, well…anywhere. To keep them excited about spending more time in their backyard pool I headed to Walmart.com for some fun pool toys and inflatables that were sure to keep them entertained poolside all summer long. With shipping as fast as 3 days, the kids are able to enjoy the pool right away! I was able to find great summer toys and activities and amazing rollback prices that were easy on the wallet but I knew would be a lot of fun for the family to enjoy.
I looked for items where my kids could really interact, laugh, and enjoy being with each other. So many times over the summer there are opportunities for each of us to go to our separate corners. I wanted to make sure to focus on things where we can enjoy each other’s company. The kids love squirting each other (and the dogs, and mom and dad) with water blasters! Hendrix thinks he is king of the hill on the squirter pool float!
The inflatable basketball toy is the family favorite. The kids get a kick out of me trying to shoot hoops in the pool with them. One of the most entertaining activities of the summer is the dunk contest we made up. Cameron and I are the judges and the kids try to get creative and earn style points with how they dunk the ball.
Cameron loves spending time in the backyard and can hardly wait for winters to be over. He loves it all. Everything from cutting the grass, to planting in the garden, to taking care of the pool. But his favorite thing to do in the backyard when the temperature heats up is to get on the grill. This year, as an early Father’s Day gift, I purchased a canopy for him to have shade while he’s on the grill. He especially loves that he can use it even if it’s raining on a day where he has the itch to grill. I am also looking forward to taking the canopy with us when we go to the beach.
Even though we have plans to spend a lot of time in our backyard this summer I am always packed and ready to walk down to the neighborhood pool with the kids. I keep my beach bag ready with sunscreen, towels, and snacks if the kids feel like a change of scenery or want to splash around with their neighborhood friends.
