Last night I waited patiently for the latest from the school board concerning Cami’s back to school update. It looks like they are pushing the school year back a few more weeks. As a parent I am happy with the news because that means a few more weeks to see what’s happening with the pandemic and more time for schools to solidify a “game plan”. For a 5 year old who has waited all her life to go to Kindergarten, a pushed back school year seems like a lifetime!
As a way to get her mind off of all the things she can’t do now, I started encouraging her with what she CAN do to prepare for back to school while we wait. First stop was to go through the back to school clothes we purchased from Walmart and to pick out her first day of school outfit.
When she showed me what she picked I was so proud! She’s going to be the cutest kid on the playground (or virtual classroom)! She is all about rainbows and bright and cheerful colors. Her rainbow tee is perfect for back to school and the fall! Easy breezy, she paired it with skinny jeans and her leopard sandals that she has been dying to wear (but I am making her wait for school to start.)
I don’t know what I was thinking ordering school supplies through the school! Last week the school called us to pick up the supplies I ordered for Cami back in June. To be fair I was just super excited to be getting her prepared for school and it seemed very convenient to have her supplies right there in one pack. When we picked them up I remembered how dull and boring school supplies could be and I knew that just wouldn’t do for my girl!
So I headed to Walmart with the supply list and found supplies for Cami that fit her personality. There were so many options as bright and colorful as her personality is! After hearing the news that the first day of school was pushed back, I had Cami prep her new supplies by putting her name on them and decorating them with fun stickers.
Puppies, and glitter, and holographic unicorns, oh my! This is more like it! When Cami goes back to school her supplies will include things that she loves to make school days that much brighter.
There may be a little longer of a delay but Cami is ready to take on Kindergarten!
