Finding Joy In Hard Times

It’s no secret that this year has been hard for everyone. There were days where I sat paralyzed looking at my blinking cursor, wanting to write, but not being able to get my emotions to translate into words. This year I have gone through scary moments in my own health, had to see the disappointment in my kid’s faces as one thing after another was cancelled, and cried with friends who have gone through death of loved ones and job loss. The one thing that I think keeps me afloat in all of this is knowing that EVERYONE this year is feeling the same way. There is solidarity in knowing that you aren’t the only one. It’s incredible how even the smallest things like a neighbor that pays for all your kid’s ice cream when the ice cream truck comes around, to the convenience of quick delivery of your groceries and other benefits of Walmart+, any little ray of sunshine in times like these makes you feel like you will get though this…together.

Despite the bad news, hardships, and anxiety I have been experiencing this year, there are some definite unexpected moments of joy. I have been able to connect with neighbors that I have lived on the same street with for 8 years but never really knew until now. I have had to come up with simpler ways to create memories with my kids, like getting them their first puppy or making a routine of spending more time outdoors with them while they explore. Cameron and I finally hunkered down and re-modeled our bedroom, something we have been talking about doing for years but “never had the time”. I even picked up a new hobby and learned something completely new! I started making custom tumblers which both challenges me, and provides a much needed creative outlet when the pressures of life seem too heavy.

Whenever I get bogged down thinking about the downers of 2020, I sometimes force myself to think of a few good things or things that have made life in these times a little easier. Even if it’s the smallest thing like finding a hack for hanging up pictures straight every time! I notice that once I get started thinking about those little joys, it begins to snowball throughout the day. So, this is where I will begin. For the next few posts I want to share with you, who no doubt has been going through it this year just like the rest of us, a few things that make life a little easier/better. Some of my favorite recipes (food makes me happy, haha!), products, ideas, lists of things to watch and listen to, and more. It is my hope that through reading these posts you discover something new that might bring you joy, even just a little bit.

So why not start with something that is near and dear to my heart, especially as a mom, and that’s something that will make shopping for things you need and want a whole lot easier! Walmart is now offering their new membership program Walmart+. For $98/year or $12.95/month Walmart+ offers members free (as fast as same day) delivery from stores on orders $35 or more (other restrictions may apply). From electronics, to toys, to my cute dress, or a nice indoor plant, you can get it delivered to your door for FREE (your order must be at least $35 and other restrictions may apply.) I am the queen of getting last minute birthday gifts for the kid’s friends. I can’t wait to get those gifts delivered right to my door! Walmart+ members will also receive member prices on fuel of 5 cents/gallon at Walmart, Murphy USA, and Murphy Express fuel stations, just in time for those holiday road trips! And finally, Walmart+ offers its members the ability to use mobile scan & go from your phone. Customers will be able to scan their items as they shop in the store and pay using Walmart Pay for a quick, easy, touch-free payment experience. In times like these where I just want to get in and out of a store with as little germs as possible, this Walmart+ feature is clutch!
