To be honest, I have had my fall decorations up for the past two weeks, pumpkins and all! With college football MIA, and the unconventional school year underway, I wanted to help get the family in the fall spirit a little early with a fun spin on our favorite fall family tradition, planting our fall garden.
I have been planing in my garden every spring and every fall for about the past 4 years. There is nothing like the joy of seeing something you planted start to sprout up and over the soil. It’s so satisfying. Some seasons I yield lots of fruit and veggies, others, not so much. Now that my kids are a little older, they have gotten in on this tradition and it’s made it that much more fun to see things grow through the eyes of a child.
The kids have been working with me in the garden for the past two years and by far our favorite time to plant is the fall! With the addition of a new puppy to our family, we had to make a few adjustments this year from our box garden to a new and improved raised garden.
We built our raised garden with old fence wood. I wanted the kids to make our garden uniquely theirs so to add a little fun to the tradition, I told them they could paint it however they wanted. We headed to Home Depot to get all the necessary items. Over the years I have found that Home Depot is the go-to place for everything that we need for home and garden. From seeds, to soil, from compost, to gardening tools, it’s all right there! For this project we needed lots of colorful paint. Choosing from all the wonderful colors from BEHR was the kid’s favorite part.
Cameron is usually behind the scenes with projects like this but not on garden days. Traditionally we work in the garden cleaning it up and planting and Cameron fires up the grill so that we can feast after all the hard work.
Because we have the new raised bed, he wanted to paint too! This year he was able to multitask by setting timers on the Lenovo Smart Clock with the Google Assistant as he prepped the grill and tagged in for a little painting action in between alarms.
The planter turned out to be a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. We splattered and dripped, painted our names, and combined colors to make new ones!
The mess was intense but clean up was a lot easier with ForceFlexPlus Trash Bags from Glad.
And when the painting was over we were ready to eat! Hot dogs straight from the Traeger Grill and Smoker with fantastic flavor from the Traeger Pellets. When the pandemic began, Cameron chose to spend many of his days shut in learning how to smoke meat. And now, we get to reap the benefits! We can’t wait to have a meal from the smoker paired with veggies from our fall garden!
