Girlfriends Guide To Being Ready For Football Season

I can’t believe it’s football season again!  Like, where did the time even go?! My husband, Cameron has begun the dance that he does every time this year which I lovingly call the “MLB/NFL shuffle”.  He is constantly with the remote switching back and forth from the Astros game to the Texans pre-season game.  This my friends is my signal that Thursdays-Sundays will now be consumed with FOOTBALL!  In 7.5 years of marriage I have learned to get less annoyed by this time of the year and embrace it my own way.  So I decided to share the love for those of you whose significant other will have pigskin on the brain for the next 7 months with this little guide to embracing the season and making it your own.

1. Create Your Own Game Day Cocktail

Watching football may in many cases cause people to drink!  My husband is typically fine with whatever IPA he’s chosen for the week but I decided it would be cool to make something to sip on in our team’s (the Texans) colors.  The Blue-42 Moscow Mule is my go-to drink whenever the Texans are playing and look at me…I’m showing a little team spirit…with spirits (see what I did there?!)  Mix your teams colors with your alcoholic add-in of choice and there you have it!  It’s fun to create your own little potion and who knows, that may be the lucky mojo your team needs to win!

2. Identify Who The Key Players Are

If you don’t know anything else, know who the key players are on your man’s favorite team…or at least who the hot ones are anyway!  It makes watching the game or even hearing your boo talk about it that much more enjoyable.  I can’t tell you much about the Houston Texans, but I can tell you exactly what JJ Watt looks like, I know a decent amount about our starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, and I met Deandre Hopkins once, our star wide receiver.  And those my friends, are the names that I will hear on the TV over and over.  It makes me feel like those are my peeps, haha!

3. Collect A Few Football Entertaining Staples

I love having people over to watch the game. If you like entertaining too, finding a few football themed entertaining staples is not a bad idea.  With the season starting on Thursday I know it’s time for me to dust off my football bowl, pull out my football field platter, and track down some gold”penalty flag” paper napkins.  This time of year those things are super easy to find.  Even something as simple as cups in your team colors, or pom-poms to decorate the table top can go a long way when it comes to setting the scene for your game day watch parties or tailgate parties.

4. Dress The Part

I love dressing for game day.  Everyone in our house has some article of clothing to show solidarity for our team, even my dog Dexter!  Recently I have been obsessed with graphic tees that express how I really feel about sports!  You can check out the “Beat Everyone” shirt and some of the others in the Sideline Socialite shop!  Many of them I have designed with YOU in mind.  The girl who is in love with a sports lover but may not really care about the actual sport of it all.  When not wearing graphic tees, dressing in your team’s colors is always a win!

5. Find Your Signature Dish

This is my favorite because…food.  I have tried so many different dishes out on house party guests.  Some themed with team colors, some football shaped, some ooey-gooey, cheesy, and fried! It never fails that I get the same request for the same two items: Mac and Cheese Bites and Football Whoopie Pies .  These are my crowd favorite’s y’all.  Find your signature dish that keeps your game day party guests or your tailgate buddies coming back for more!  I have to admit it makes me that much more amped up for a game knowing that people are counting on me to bring certain foods they love.  I think that makes me the MVP!
