With speeches like Oprah’s at the Golden Globes it gave me all the feelz about being proud to be a woman in this day in age. Sometimes it’s easy to forget about ourselves as women and realize how truly phenomenal we are until someone like Oprah reminds us of the possibilities. The other day I sat and took a minute to reflect on how amazing we are. Maybe it’s because Hendrix is fresh out of the womb, but I started really feelin’ myself for incubating, protecting, and delivering a real live human being out of my body! I thought about how a good girlfriend of mine who is a surgeon, single-handedly created a program for a local hospital that would pave the way to help salvage limbs for diabetic patients. And then there is my other friend who is like, the super-est super mom on the planet who takes care of both her small children every day all, day. I’m not talking about popping them in front of the TV. She comes up with beautiful and engaging activities for them to do and healthy meal and snack options for them every.single.day. As Valentine’s Day approaches, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get your best girls over and just celebrate being a woman…maybe with a few cocktails, snacks, and a great “girl power” type movie and you have the perfect recipe for a fun Galentine’s Day!
1.Find A Cute Outfit That Says Something About You
For my Galentine’s party I am going to ask my best girls to wear a shirt or graphic tee that makes them feel empowered or describes them as a woman (these days empowering tees are everywhere!) When I found this Girl Power Sweatshirt I knew this would be what I would wear to the Galentine’s party. Pared with my amazing embroidered leather jacket that my mom (another amazing woman) got me, it was a total score as the weather continues to drop in Houston.
2. Set The Stage To Be Each Other’s Cheerleaders
I am going to start my Galentine’s party off with a little cocktail hour where my guest will have a cute themed cocktail and be able to catch up on life. I find that it’s so important to share our struggles and cheer on our victories as women. Even if the victories seem small to you, like finally getting your baby to sleep through the night, they should be celebrated!
3. Trade the Rom-Com for A Bad Ass Girl Power Movie
Noting gets me more amped to carpe diem as a woman than watching a movie about women killing it at life, championing their friends, and inspiring others to #yolo Here is a list of suggestions for your Galentine’s party that will not disappoint!
1. Hidden Figures
2. Wonder Woman
3. Joy
4. Waitress
5. Bridesmaids
6. Girl’s Trip
7. Eat Pray Love
8. Wild
Go forth and be amazing, and happy Galentine’s Day!
