Game Day Recipe Puppy Chow

I am realizing that after my last game day recipe post for rice crispy treat jerseys and now today’s post for game day puppy chow, maybe I had a serious cereal craving during my pregnancy.  Well folks, that’s what happens when you combine pregnancy cravings with the beginning of football season #sorrynotsorry. If you are looking for great ways to incorporate your team into a tailgate party or homegate one of the easiest ways to do so is by incorporating your team’s colors.  Sure, it’s easy to get napkins, plates, and plastic cutlery in team colors, but if you want to kick it up a notch, incorporate those colors in the actual food!  Puppy chow is a recipe I usually associate with Christmas or some reason.  Once I start eating it, it’s hard to stop!  With the addition of colored candy melts, your puppy chow can be tailored to go with whatever your team’s colors are for the perfect game day treat!

Divide the cereal into your large baggies. The amount of baggies is determined by the number of colors you will have for your mix.  I had 3 for my Houston Texans red, navy, and white mix.  you will repeat all of the melting and cooking steps for each color.

To get my navy color I melted black candy melts in with the blue candy melts.

When you have melted each color add the melted candy to your cereal bags and shake. It’s important to make sure the color is fully incorporated and all cereal pieces are covered. When fully coated with color, add the powdered sugar.

To take mine up a level, I added pretzels.  Adding other elements in is a good way too also incorporate your team’s colors (think m&m’s, reece’s pieces, etc.)
