4 Reasons to Embrace Basketball Season for His Sake and Yours

Now that football season is officially over some of you may not have realized that basketball season has be happening for quite some time now (since September). I have been made aware of this fact because my husband Cameron is a huge Houston Rockets fan and has not missed a game in about 3 years. Even when we were on a cruise last year he managed to find the Rockets game on TV!  There was a time when I was in charge of managing a suite at the stadium where the Houston Rockets play for my former employer.  In those days we watched almost every home game live and even I started to pay attention to what was going on during games.  Those times were the motivation for starting this blog as I would often try to engage with Cameron about players and their personal lives (which he was indifferent about!)  Fast forward to now being parent’s of a toddler, the opportunities to go watch a game at the Toyota Center are far and few between…

…but when we do go, we look cute!  Although I have been out of the loop with basketball for the past few years, if I had to choose a sport to actually sit down and watch with my husband, basketball would be it.  Here are 4 reasons why you too should embrace basketball if your man is into it.

Of all the mainstream sports your man could watch (out of baseball, football, and basketball), basketball is the quickest.  The players are moving quickly up and down the court and there are not super long pauses to regroup.  Baseball has a whole section of time in the 7th inning where you get to stretch because you have been sitting there for so long!  Basketball  is pretty straightforward and constantly moving which keeps my attention a little longer.

This goes hand in hand with the first reason.  With the game being so fast paced, the time from beginning to end seems to zoom by!  When I am watching at home, by the time I grab a snack, and put on two coats of polish, the game is half way over!  Basketball also seems like a much shorter season than the others.  Maybe it’s because a huge chunk of the season is shared with football, but we are already only a few short months away from play-off season!

3. The Hotties

There are some really cute basketball players out there…just sayin’.  Unlike with football where their faces are covered up 80% of the time with helmets, watching a basketball game with your man can provide some serious eye candy. Check here to see my fave NBA boo.  Depending on who your team is playing you could have the best of both worlds!  Your man sitting next to you (who is your #1 boo, obvi) and then two teams with some of the hottest players!

4. The Players Are Interesting

As I mentioned before I really got into basketball because of the the player’s “stories”.  When you have watched as many games with your boo as I have, you start really feeling like you know the players!  Last year our very own James Harden of the Houston Rockets caused the fans to be in an uproar over the fact that he was dating Khloe Kardashian.  I find it more interesting that James Harden (a.k.a. The Beard) hasn’t shaved his beard in at least 7 years which is absolutely disgusting to me.  Think about all the games and all the sweat in that thing!  I feel like his face needs a breather, you know?  Other players are just out right eccentric, like the “Bird Man” who is a milder version of Dennis Rodman back in the day.

So take heart if your man has jumped from the Super Bowl straight into basketball!  You might even grow to like it yourself.  If not, I have a few basketball themed cocktails coming your way soon to ease you through to June.
